WHYStories worth telling.

Stories from theFAR POINT.
Nobody asked us to make these films.
No one is waiting for them. No one has promised they’ll be finished, or seen, or that they’ll matter to anyone but us. And still we can’t not make them.
We make them because they are stories worth telling.
So we carry on the way you’d carry a candle across a windy field: one hand cupped around the flame, knowing it might go out, walking anyway. We cast the bell without knowing whether it will ring, and we wait to hear.
A borrowed light. A crew of friends who said yes. Whatever equipment we’ve got.
That’s what we call FAITH ... that it’s worth the walking.
The FAR POINT is where that faith lives: past the budget, past the odds, past anyone’s permission, out where the work is its own reason.
This festival is for the people who live out there.
Bring us your bell. We’ll be listening.

A crew of friends who said yes.
MADE HERE. TOGETHER.
Welcome to the
first-ever Apolune Film Festival.
Apolune is a Vancouver production house and creative collective founded by local indie filmmakers Ansel Tan and Britney Kam.
We know first-hand how much talent this city holds, because we’re building our careers here, making movies alongside the people who live and work in it.
Vancouver needs more events built for independent filmmakers. So we thought: what better way to stoke community than to start one ourselves?
How hard can it be?!

A celebration of Vancouver’sINDIE FILMMAKERS...
Most of us have spent years making films alone. Few of us have seen each other’s work. Whether you’re emerging or seasoned, this is your room.
See each other’s work.
On the big screen, with a real audience.
Meet each other.
The writers, directors, DPs, editors, and composers working ten minutes from you, in the same room.
Leave with a crew.
Every collaboration starts with someone saying ‘I loved your film. What are you making next?’
The whole range of Vancouver’s independent film community, in one room, celebrating each other. TOGETHER.

...and those just setting out.CRASH TEST CINEMA.

Every January, CiTR 101.9FM, UBC’s campus radio station, runs CRASH TEST CINEMA: a low-barrier-access film programme taking first-time UBC filmmakers from a blank page to a finished film.
This year, Apolune is the programme’s mentorship and equipment sponsor.
Learn.
Eight workshops taught by working Vancouver filmmakers, covering screenwriting, directing, cinematography, production design, sound, and post-production.
Make.
Teams write their scripts, shoot on phones and shared equipment from Apolune and our sponsors, and edit their films to delivery.
Show.
Their films screen free at the Norm Theatre for the cohort and their guests. Every participant then gets a free waiver to submit to APLFF.
A first film beside a tenth film, in the same room, in front of the same audience.

Two whole days celebratingSTORIES FROM
THE FAR POINT.

This March, everyone comes together.
First-time filmmakers’ films hit the big screen. Local indie filmmakers show their work beside them. Then comes a raffle, food, and a social.
The weekend ends with the premiere of THE ANGEL LIBERTY, the proof-of-concept short for Apolune’s first in-house feature, CONTRADANCE.
Every dollar raised at the festival goes toward making CONTRADANCE a reality.

But, we needYOUR HELP!
We have the faith, the films, and the people. We don’t have the budget. Everything we raise goes back into the night, the cohort, and the feature.
The filmmakers.
Audio, lighting, grip, and workshop materials for the Crash Test Cinema cohort, so first-time filmmakers aren’t limited by what they own.
The night.
The theatre, projection, crew, food for the room, and raffle prizes worth showing up for.
What comes next.
Festival proceeds go toward CONTRADANCE, Apolune’s first in-house feature.
WAYS TO GIVE
Cash sponsorship. Gear and services. Raffle prizes.
Equipment, printing, design, catering, or something worth winning. Every contribution puts a film on the screen.FOR THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE IT POSSIBLE
